Nigeria is divided into States, which are federated political entities that share sovereignty with the Federal Government of Nigeria. There are 36 States in Nigeria, bound together by a federal agreement, plus the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which is not a state but a territory under the direct control of the Federal Government. The States are further divided into a total of 774 Local Government Areas.
Under the Nigerian Constitution, states have the power to ratify constitutional amendments.

WHO IS OGBONNAYA ONU?
Ogbonnaya Onu was born on December 1, 1951, to the family of His Royal Highness, Late Eze David Aba Onu, Eze Adu of Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State in Nigeria.
He obtained Grade One with Distinction in his West African School Certificate (WASCCE) examination at Izzi High School, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. Dr. Onu also obtained Distinction in Physics and Chemistry at the Higher School Certificate (HSC) examination at the College of Immaculate Conception, (CIC), Enugu, graduating as the best overall student. By 1976, he graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Lagos.
