On July 20th, 2021, YBNL signee, Fireboy DML, released a song titled “Peru“. Could it possibly be a diss song fired at Peruzzi, or just coincidental?
“Even Peru(zzi) don dey para…”
Fireboy DML really isn’t new in the business of using the name of a place for song title. In his 18-tracks second studio album, APOLLO, he titled one of his songs, “New York City … (Girl)”.
But this time, it’s quite unusual, because, unlike “New York City Girl” – a popular city in the United States of America, “Peru” is a country in South America. And of course, instead of possessing suffix (or prefix) tags like, “Peru Girl”, “Peru Chicks”, or still, “My Peru Babe”, rather, it was unattached – just “Peru”.
Tobechukwu Victor Okoh, popularly known as Peruzzi, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and performing artiste. Formerly a signed artiste under Golden Boy Entertainment in 2017, before joining DMW bandwagon, about a year after.
Of course, the lyrics embedded in the song, “Peru“, didn’t speak much about love. “I’m not playin’ with you, I’m not jokin’…” (Indaboski-fied, right?)
Could this possibly be a coded shot fired at Peruzzi? Or might be that Peruzzi wrote the song initially?
Let’s run a quick anecdote…
Around 2018, way before Fireboy DML became a big name in the Nigerian Music Industry, DMW (Davido Music Worldwide) crew released a song, titled “Aza” (featuring Davido, Duncan Mighty & Peruzzi).
In the song, Peruzzi begat and popularized a phrase; “Am loo…”
Although, a slight trace back to the industry made it uncovered that Wande Coal has used the same phrase in a couple of songs during the Mo’Hits crew star-days. Wande Coal is of course one of Fireboy’s role model.
But Peruzzi’s rebranding elephantine it.
Well, at the moment, I doubt if Peruzzi can make a king-claim of the phrase, as many can easily relate it with the song “Peru” (by Fireboy), than his, in Aza (DMW crew).
Apparently, one can easily spark a suggestion that Peruzzi co-wrote the song initially, and probably, as a form of tribute, Fireboy titled it as “Peru“.
Could all of these really be a coincidence?
Recall, on December 7, 2020, Peruzzi featured Fireboy DML on a song, titled, “Southy Love“.
What do you think? Fireboy’s ‘Peru’, a diss fired at Peruzzi? a Compliment? Or just COINCIDENTAL?
Well, actually, there was a connectedness between “Peru”, “Fireboy”, and “Peruzzi”.
And yes, it was truly a shot fired at Peruzzi. Fireboy released the song as form of payback to Peruzzi for thrashing him and won a bet they had while playing FIFA Pro game.
“I made money with your name [Peruzzi] after using it to sing in my Hit song ‘Peru come Dey Para’ ” – Fireboy tells Peruzzi in Anger after Peruzzi won his Money in A Game of FIFA betting!!!
…and that’s was when “Peru(zzi) don (come) dey para…!”
However, after releasing the song, Peruzzi, via his Instagram account reacted saying; “Shen Gbo Weyrey”.
What do you think? Let’s chat in the comment section, guys.
